What is Facial Fitness?
In short…
…Facial fitness is a form of exercise aimed at regaining the tone of the face muscles.
By doing so and targetting specific areas of the face and neck (jaw, lips, cheeks, eyes, brow, forehead…) you can not only prevent, but also reverse some of the most visible signes of ageing.
It certainly takes some willpower, as does gym training, but if you keep at it, you will after some time feel and then then see the results, and training will just become part of your life.
Below are some more in depth explanations.
I - Saggy muscles: the forgotten culprit
When talking about ageing, people always mention the usual suspects: sun, alcohol, tobacco, poor diet and genetics.
True, these all play a major role, but they mostly make the skin look dull and wrinkled.
Have you noticed that some people have aged…yet they have no wrinkles or bad skin? Now, look at their features today and compare them to the way they looked ten years ago: their jowls, their cheeks, their eyelids have in fact collapsed by a few millimeters, as the muscles, once upon a time nicely toned, have now shriveled or have become lose. The puffiness that results is enough to make on look much older.
II -How can Facial Fitness restore your youthful looks?
Our approach is very similar to exercising in the gym in order to achieve a fit, toned body.
There are around 60 muscles on the human face and neck, yet most of them we hardly use. With time they lose their strength, they shrivel and the skin attached to them starts sagging.
Facial Fitness Ireland will teach you how to ‘work the muscle against resistance’; this is the key to muscle growth – the equivalent of weight training for the face.
When you work out regularly, the facial muscles develop. Unlike the rest of the body, the skin of the face is directy attached to the underlying muscle. This means that the more toned the muscle is, the tighter the skin is.
Facial fitness is about rebuilding these muscles in order to create a lift to the whole face and restore skin firmness. The muscle fibre hence created also fills out wrinkles and the face appears smoother.
III -Problems that can benefit from facial exercises
By regularly performing facial exercises targeting individual muscles, or groups of muscles, most of the common problems linked with ageing can be considerably alleviated.
- Overall lack of muscle tone
- Dull, chalky complexion
- Enlarged pores
- Lined neck
- Double chin
- Heavy, saggy, slack jawline
- Mouth corners turned down
- Tight, thin lips
- Wizened lips
- Nasolabial folds
- Long, enlarged nose
- Low cheeks
- Flat cheeks
- Under eye puffiness
- Under eye hollows
- Crow’s feet
- Hooding, drooping, heavy eyelids
- Frown lines
- Forehead lines
IV -Who can benefit from taking up Facial Fitness?
There is no minimum age to start.
Taking it up early prevents the appearance of the first signs of ageing. People in the public eye (actors, singers, models…) may have a particular interest in maintaining youthful features.
In your fifties, sixties, seventies or even well above, you can still dramatically improve your appearance and erase decades off your face!
Men too!
V - The extra-benefits of Facial Fitness
Beside the incredible feel good factor of seeing yourself regaining those youthful looks, the comments about the way you look coming from friends and colleagues – who may not know what your secret is – will start pouring in after a few months, and your self-confidence will be immensely lifted.
